European SME Week 2010

European SME Week 2010
Training Business Champions!

Dr. Barry McCleary, Founder and CEO of Megazyme International, has been chosen to represent Ireland at this year’s European SME week, which will take place in Brussels from 25th May – 1st June.  Dr. McCleary will also be profiled as part of the SME Week brochure.

Launched in 2009, the European SME week is co-ordinated by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry as one of the measures implementing Principle 1 of the Small Business Act for Europe (SBA), which states that “The EU and Member States should create an environment within which entrepreneurs and family businesses can thrive and entrepreneurship is rewarded”.

Objectives for the European SME week:

(1) To provide information on what the EU and national, regional and local authorities are offering as support to micro, small and medium-sized businesses.

(2) To promote entrepreneurship so that more people, and in particular younger ones, consider becoming an entrepreneur as a career option.

(3) To give recognition to entrepreneurs for their contribution to Europe’s welfare, jobs, innovation and competitiveness.

Business workout is the theme for this year’s SME week and it is all about “getting fit for the market”.
